What can Educational Psychologists assess children for?

A Psychological assessment conducted by an Educational Psychologist is a process of testing that uses a combination of techniques to help arrive at some hypotheses about a child or young person and their behaviour, personality and capabilities in order to identify strategies and intervention to help that person in the setting.

Educational Psychologists can assess children and young people for a variety of areas, including:

Cognition and learning needs (including specific and general learning difficulties)
Communication and interaction needs (including ASD related difficulties)
Social, emotional and mental health needs (including challenging behaviour)
Physical, sensory and medical needs (including sensory regulation seeking)

Each assessment is tailored to the child or young person and may include more then one of the above, depending on the issues raised and/or the child’s presentation.
