What does the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) do?

The HCPC fully vet and check every applicant who applies to be on their register. This includes robust identity checks and checks on Educational Psychology qualifications, whether these were gained here or abroad. The Council also has stringent checking procedures for CPD (Continued Professional Development) and standards of behaviour, performance, ethics and ongoing proficiency.  The HCPC approves Educational Psychology courses, runs public awareness campaigns and hosts professional events.

The HCPC maintain a register of all professionals licensed to practice in those professions that come under the HCPC’s regulations, known as ‘Registrants’.  They also deal with any complaints of Professional misconduct relating to Registrants and The Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service is responsible for investigating and conducting hearings on a Registrant’s Fitness to Practice.  Details of recent decisions regarding Registrants can be found here: https://www.hcpts-uk.org/hearings/recentdecisions/
